"The Tektronix S-52 is a very fast tunnel-diode step generator designed for use with the 7S12 as a high resolution Time Domain Reflectometer.  For TDR applications, the S-52 features automatic bias control to eliminate effects of tunnel-diode and load changes. A 50 ohm reverse termination minimizes reflections. The pulse width is sufficient for distances up to 32ft in any cable. A pretrigger output allows the S-52 to be operated in sequential sampling systems without a delay line".

Pulse Output:

• risetime 25ps or less
• apositive going amplitude at least 200mV in 50 ohms
• Pulse Duration 800ns
• Pulse Period 16µs within 2µs
• Pulse Aberrations following the step are +7%, -7%, total of 10% p-p within 1.8ns of step with reference point at 1.8ns from step, +2%, -2%, total of 4% p-p after first 2.5ns with reference point at 300ns from step.

Pretrigger Output:

• Risetime is 1ns or less
• Amplitude into 50 ohm is at least 1V, positive going
• Pretrigger Pulse Duration 4ns
• Pretrigger occurs 85ns (within 5ns) before the pulse output. Pretrigger to pulse output jitter is 10 ps or less. Pretrigger output is also available at rear connector for internal triggering of the sampling sweep unit.

Dieser Einschub ist konzipiert für Anwendungen, die eine schnelle Anstiegszeit erfordern. Hauptsächlich gebaut wurde er für die Time Domain Reflectrometrie, es lassen sich mit dem Einschub z.B. aber auch sehr schnelle Operationsverstärker auf ihre Slew Rate und das Impulsverhalten hin untersuchen. Der S-52 Einschubkopf ist relativ selten, er wird auch auf dem Gebrauchtmarkt nur selten verkauft, wenn dann teilweise zu nicht unerheblichen Preisen, gesehen habe ich ihn fast ausschließlich nur bei Händlern und Auktionshäusern in Übersee.
